Opposites Attract!

My groom is the type of person that you have to really know because his sense of humor is one left to be desired. When he does show his sense of humor, you have to verify it with him. I, on the other hand, am the light of the party and have never met a stranger. He thinks it's totally crazy that I can get invited to an engagement party by a total stranger just because we chatted about our recent engagements.

I guess we balance each other out and besides, we look great together! The Forgotten Groom is NO MORE!

The Forgotten Groom

My groom, Spencer M. Nelson, Jr., brought to my attention that he is not mentioned in my blog. I reminded him that he is not "social networking" friendly. However, he told me today that he feels like the "forgotten" groom. He also asked if I was embaressed of him. Are you kidding me?!?!?!?! He's a stud! I LOVE U Spencer!!!! Can't wait until Nov. 13th!

Baby Diversion!

Okay, I'm planning to move, find a school for my little person, find a job and plan 2 baby showers for my "good" girlfriends! WTH?!?!?!?!?!?!? Did I mention the blood vessel that exploded in my eye? Anywho, babies are coming out of the wood work. I try not to touch any of the infected mothers to ensure that a baby doesn't rub off on me. LOL However, I found some TREEmendous decor! Oh, they are all having boys! Did I mention I'm planning their showers?!?!?! This POST is for an "It's a Boy Shower." I'll post the shower that includes a HIGH TEA later!

Did I mention that they messed up my color scheme? Well, I love boys, so it's okay.

Music!!!

I have a friend that whenever he hears a good song, he yells out MUSIC!!! Well, that's what I plan to have at our shingdig. No Lil Wayne or anyone who's name sounds like a nickname out of the hood. My music perspective has broaden since I've been listening to WCLK 91.9 (Clark-Atlanta University). The music will be nice and tasteful. However, the last hour will be wild and loose!

Family and YOUR Wedding

When I tell you the fangs came out when we first started talking about our wedding. It was mess. I wanted something small and offset the cost of a traditional wedding. My groom wasn’t trying to hear it. I then thought about a destination with the two of us and our parents, but we have kids, so no real party there. Then, I said well, let’s get married in GA and if folks want to share our day, they’ll be there (the family is in LA).

OMG, you would have thought I had cursed in church. I was told, GA was too far to travel, decrease your guest list to accommodate everyone, if you look hard enough you’ll find a place you can afford, the two of you make enough money to have a nice wedding, stop being cheap! Are you frickin’ kidding me?!?!?!?!? After digesting all of these comments, I came to one conclusion, if it’s going to be done, it will be done MY way. So, from there, I chose a catering facility that would accommodate ME! Meaning, they provide everything except the photographer and the favors and it’s cost effective. My bridal party is drama-free and financially secure. I made my guest list (all 100 of them) people who I really wanted to be around (except for a few family members I was obligated to invite). I’ve even thought about a low maintenance hairstyle which will not require me being in the hair salon all day.

The gist of this POST is that family can be the worse when it comes to spending YOUR money. However, in the end, I will have it MY WAY cause I Pay The Cost to be The Boss!

Why I Love Dragonfly's!

The main symbolisms of the dragonfly are renewal, positive force and the power of life in general. Dragonflies can also be a symbol of the sense of self that comes with maturity.

I found some pins that I just love. Why not incorporate them in my wedding?

The Wedding vs The Marriage

It’s the happiest day of many couple’s lives. The day the rest of their lives begin. However, what is really going through their minds? Do they really know the difference between the wedding and the marriage? Well, the wedding lasts for about 5 hours (that’s including the reception) and the marriage lasts “until death do us part.” Now that that’s clear, let’s move on.

We’ve all been to a wedding where the bride and groom get along like cats and dogs. I know of a couple who had a “knock down drag out fight,” and was mad up until they walked down the aisle. I also know of a groom who left his reception with his girlfriend. The worse was a friend telling me if the wedding was paid for she would leave. The marriage had taken place less than 24 hours prior the comment. These aren’t situations I’ve heard of, but experienced.

Most people focus on the party-part of a wedding. The décor, what you’re going to wear, the gifts, the guests, the food, the honeymoon and the list goes on. Most couples go into a marriage knowing that there are major problems. However, they feel that after they’re married, all of these issues magically go away. Unfortunately, the stress of marriage, in addition to kids, jobs and those “small prior issues” just intensify. I think if most folks actually thought about why they were marrying the person and if needed, would seek out counseling, their Happily Ever After can come to pass.

Oooooh! Bridesmaids Gifts!

I loved shopping for my bridesmaids. I chose 10 of the most mild mannered, non dramatic individuals I could find. They range from my cousins, to a soror, to a God sister, to best friends. However, I know in the end they have my best interest at heart!

Theme: Spa Day!

Groomsmen Gifts

Okay, we have 10 groomsmen and as soon as I received the names, I started looking for gifts. However, there are so many choices and the fact that I got most of them during and after the Christmas holidays, I may have bought a little too much. My thoughts on bridal party gifts are our friends/family are spending their money and time on our special day. The least we can do is get them some memorable gifts. These items are what I'm going towards.

The theme: A Man's Man... LOL

Mother of the Bride!

For those of you who know my mom, she is quite stylish. I think she already bought her dress, but if I had my way, she'd wear these!
